The Water of Life

The Water of Life
This morning our speaker at church talked about heaven, or more precisely, he spoke about the New Jerusalem as described in Revelation 21 in the New Testament. It is a passage that has some special connection for me, besides just my longing to see Jesus there. If you have followed my work for a while, you may remember that I painted a series about stones – particularly precious stones – mentioned in the Bible. Revelation 21 was one of my main Biblical sources for 12 of those paintings. I felt very privileged to be able to share my grouping of paintings (see below) at church today as a way to encourage people to think about the beauty God is preparing for those who love Him.

The beautiful descriptions took my breath away again today. GOD designed beauty, and HE is expressed through beauty, somehow. I absolutely love it that the GOD who created me, and bought me, and loves me is a GOD of beauty. As an artist, beauty speaks to me in ways I cannot articulate. And it was so meaningful to me to be able to share that today!

My painting today started with color choices and composition, as is my normal plan. As I worked on this curvy composition, I felt that the shapes and colors were expressive of water, but not exactly like we usually see it. The description of the “river of the water of life” in Revelation caught my attention, and I imagine it being water – no question of that – but water that looks and moves in ways I have never seen here on earth.  Maybe this painting can help you try to imagine the beauty of heaven, too, as seen in the Bible!

Revelation 22:1 (NASB) “Then he showed me a river of the water of life, clear as crystal, coming from the throne of God and of the Lamb”
My artwork at church. What a privilege!
