Busy Signal

Busy Signal
"When would be a good time for a phone call?" I asked my daughter via Google hangouts. I know how busy both of my kids are now, and that they can often briefly respond to a message when they are not available for extended conversation. As it happened, she was free to take my call, and it was grand to hear her voice. Remember when we used to get a busy signal if someone was already on the phone, or if *gasp* they took the phone off the hook so they wouldn't be disturbed? I guess we might still choose to ignore a call if we are busy, but we usually have our phone at hand, and our caller just hears our voicemail message and leaves a message.

This painting reminds me of a cityscape at night, or traffic and street signs. It is primarily a purple and yellow, complementary color scheme, though it is not overwhelmingly purple. The composition can be called a grid or a frames composition, or possibly just a rectangular composition. I enjoy seeing art done using this composition, but I rarely choose to use it. I should use it more often!

I feel busy this September, like so many do. My art schedule is keeping me actively engaged with my calendar and my computer, not to mention my studio! But I am grateful that my busyness is that of doing things that are important to me, like contacting my adult kids and painting and spending "couch-time" with my Beloved Husband.

All of these thoughts of busyness (and recent current events) bring to mind this Old Testament passage.

Ecclesiastes 3:1-11 (HCSB)
There is an occasion for everything,
and a time for every activity under heaven:
a time to give birth and a time to die;
a time to plant and a time to uproot;
a time to kill and a time to heal;
a time to tear down and a time to build;
a time to weep and a time to laugh;
a time to mourn and a time to dance;
a time to throw stones and a time to gather stones;
a time to embrace and a time to avoid embracing;
a time to search and a time to count as lost;
a time to keep and a time to throw away;
a time to tear and a time to sew;
a time to be silent and a time to speak;
a time to love and a time to hate;
a time for war and a time for peace.
...  He has made everything appropriate in its time. He has also put eternity in their hearts, but man cannot discover the work God has done from beginning to end.
