Deep Blue

Image
Deep Blue  This gleaming little blue painting surprised me by being finished before I expected it to be. I was really enjoying working with layers of interference paints under and on top of layers of acrylic glazing, because there seems to be a deeper feel to the surface when I use those layers. It is almost as if I can look through the canvas into a place beyond the surface where the light is reflected and refracted in different colors. It reminds me of being in our woods in the twilight.  I haven't been to our woods in the twilight OR in the daylight much recently. One of the reasons is that we have had torrential rain and some thunderstorms in the last couple of days. You know how much I love the rain! I have enjoyed doing my work near the windows in our home so I can watch and listen. The rain seems to have shown up in this one, too, doesn't it?  $72 plus shipping and handling 6" x 6" Painted with artist quality heavy-body acrylic paint on 1.5” deep gallery wrappe

Evening on Beyer Trail

Image
Evening on Beyer Trail There were three main homework assignments for the class I took for painting acrylic landscapes.  I painted over t he first painting I did  almost as soon as I uploaded the homework to the group, because it was not my style or taste. I decided then and there that I would have to adapt the teaching and homework to more my style if I wanted to like it at all. I also used my own photos of places I care about as I painted. So here is another painting from one of my favorite places to walk, the Beyer Trail.  $215.00 plus shipping and handling 12" x 9" Painted with the finest quality acrylic heavy-body paint on canvas panel Ready to frame Click here to see or purchase this painting on my website. I took the photo I used for this painting in 2013, and I have actually painted it before in a completely different style. I must admit, I think I like that less representational style a little better. Do you? Someone did like it enough to buy it pretty much right awa

Begin Again (Finnegan)

Begin Again (Finnegan) Do you remember the nursery rhyme that included "poor old Michael Finnegan, begin again"? That little ditty was going through my mind as I worked on giving this painting a title. (I considered calling it Finnegan Begin Again. Would that be a better title?) One reason for the title Begin Again is that this painting represents me REALLY getting back to painting abstract studio paintings after too long away. "Poor old Brenda Finnegan begin again"! 😊 Except, of course, it doesn't quite fit since I am so delighted to be back at it! $1250 plus shipping and handling 36" x 36" Painted with artist quality heavy-body acrylic paint on 1.5” deep gallery wrapped canvas Edges painted black Click here to view or purchase on my website. Begin Again started out with a different focus, though. This Bible focus represented a new start for the Israelites in the Old Testament, like the painting represents a new start for me.  Here is the passage I h
