This painting is one that I had worked on before I started preparing for my Open House (which was a smashing success! Thank you!), and I had been mentally painting it almost every day as I worked on that event.  20" x 20" Painted with the finest quality heavy-body acrylic paint on acid-free, heavy weight Fabriano watercolor paper Ready to frame Click here to purcha

2nd Not-exactly-annual Art Show & Open House

Image
"It looks like things are really starting to come together for this weekend," said my Beloved Husband. We have been very much occupied with preparing for an art show/sale and open house at our home and my studio lately. I have to say, it is really nice to have so much of my work displayed around here. Sometimes I forget the details in a painting, or don't realize how some of the pieces complement each other.  The open house is scheduled for this weekend, April 20, 4:00 - 8:00 and April 21, 10:00 - 4:00.  For anyone who is local and would like to come, you can contact me directly at Brendakaypaintings@gmail.com for more information, or you can come to the intersection of US 30 and IN 15 and head north about 2 miles and watch for the sign on the east side of the road. I would love to see you there!

No time for a walk?

Image
I didn't have time to go for a walk this morning - much less to blog about it! But here I am. First, it is an amazingly beautiful day! It is in the upper 50s and the wind is blowing more than it usually does here in Northern Indiana, and it is SUNNY! (what?!) Second, I had already spent a couple of hours on the computer by 9:00 this morning, and needed to get my blood flowing again before I start in on more open house prep.  So this morning, I was struck again with the Master Artist. Oh, my goodness! I love that, whereas I use primarily one sense in my creative endeavors - sight - HE uses all five of our senses, and probably others that we cannot even imagine.  Starting out, my eyes were drawn to all of the dry cattails leftover from last year's crop. I saw all of the vertical (moving) lines and repetition of shape and color. I noticed the subtle value changes from deep shadow to highlighted, sun touched tops. Wow.  Then further along the trail, I noticed the movement o

New Every Morning #6

Image
New Every Morning #6 Well, I almost feel like I am cheating, because today's morning warm-up happened at 4:00 this afternoon. But at least I got into the studio and painted! I am finding that painting these warm-ups helps me accomplish more of the work that needs to be done, even beyond paintings. It is invigorating to do these little colorful starters.  NLA 6" x 6" Painted with the finest quality acrylic heavy-body paint on hand prepared wood panel Ready to frame Lamentations 3:22-23 "The steadfast love of the Lord never ceases; His mercies never come to an end; they are new every morning; great is Your faithfulness."

Victorious!

Image
Victorious! And so, on Easter morning, the victory is won! The encroaching darkness that had filled our hearts since Good Friday when the veil was torn, the sun was darkened, and our Hero was crucified, is now itself being encroached upon! And of course, darkness is not a 'thing' in and of itself - it is only the lack of the Light. Darkness cannot extinguish Light, it can only be banished by Light. That creeping, frightening nothingness that appeared to have come into its own is instead sent into the void.  12" x 12" Painted with the finest quality acrylic heavy-body paint on canvas panel Ready to frame Click here to purchase via my website.
