Hear my cry, O God;
Give heed to my prayer.
From the end of the earth I call to You when my heart is faint;
Lead me to the rock that is higher than I.
For You have been a refuge for me,
A tower of strength against the enemy.
Let me dwell in Your tent forever;
Let me take refuge in the shelter of Your wings.

The world news lately has been stunning. Many are enduring suffering weightier than any I have had. My heart aches for families of those killed, and those who are rioting in the USA. It aches for the victims of the earthquake in Nepal. For the families of the girls kidnapped in Nigeria, and for the families of the Christian martyrs killed by militant terrorists, for the families of those who find their identity in participation of these and other crimes - for these I also feel pangs of sorrow.
I also have friends and family that are sick or troubled with serious distresses. The choices made by those in leadership and those in the public eye are incomprehensible to me at times. Turning on the news, or looking at headlines on Facebook and Twitter can make my heart feel faint.
Yet, the good news in all of this is that the answer is right before me. The answer to all of these enormous, unthinkable problems is here with me. And with them - the African girl, the children of the martyrs, the wife of the captive, the homeless and hungry, the lonely and refused.
Lord Jesus, rescue us. Give us refuge.
