Any Day Now 109 - Steaming Coffee

Any Day Now 109- Steaming Coffee
I feel like I have a solid week under my belt on my daily painting series Any Day Now, and it has been so good for me. I hope you have enjoyed seeing more paintings lately. I find it very interesting to learn which paintings appeal to different people. It is not what I expect, that is for sure! And, you might not be surprised to learn, it is not at all unanimous. In fact, I suspect if everyone who sees the paintings voted for a favorite, there would not be a popular vote winner.

Yesterday morning I watched the steam rising from my coffee cup as I was reading my Bible in the morning. Our big family room was cool, but the sun was coming in the windows and it felt lovely. (Today, on the other hand, it was 63 degrees and so I moved into a different room with a fireplace.)  That morning time spent with my Bible and (usually) my coffee is close to sacred to me. I value it more than I can express and it was fun to find a way to paint it in this series.

I haven't mentioned much about composition as I have worked on this series, and have only briefly mentioned color choices. This painting would fit into my definition of a curvy painting, and though it is not one of the easiest styles for me to paint, it is the one that most frequently catches my eye in a gallery or other exhibit. My color palette has remained constant, but many of the days I have really wanted to add some metallic color to the painting. This is one of those days, to be sure! Maybe I will eventually go back through and add metallic color to several of the series.

And, I am thinking I will change the verse I have been using for each painting in the series. I keep thinking of this verse from the Old Testament, which is also one of my favorites, and I think it also is very fitting for my theme.

Psalm 90:12 So teach us to number our days,
That we may present to You a heart of wisdom.
