Any Day Now 1027 - Cascade

Any Day Now 1027 - Cascade
My to-do list had my attention today, and not my Any Day Now painting for this series. I had probably 20 things on the list, (which will not get done) and painting was not near the top. But I glanced out the window in our family room, and our big old hickory tree caught my eye. It has turned a glowing yellow-gold, and the wind was making the leaves almost flash and shine as they moved.

4" x 4"
Painted with artist quality heavy-body acrylic paint on 1.5” deep cradled wood panel
Edges painted black

The tree is huge, and it has branches that kind of hang down around the lower parts of the tree, and one of those branches looked like a cascade of shimmering gold outside of our window. It was so beautiful, and it drew me away from my list to instead celebrate autumn once again this October.

It has been tricky for me to figure out how to paint somewhere between abstraction and representation as I have done these daily paintings. Have I already told you that? In some ways, these works have been very simple, yet I have made an effort to use what I know about composition and color to make them still be good paintings. I especially like the whole group together, I have to say. I am so glad to have had this project to work on!

These verses from the New Testament feel meaningful to me this autumn as I have worked on this Any Day Now series. Somehow, the golden colors of autumn remind me of heaven. I cannot seem to put my thoughts into words, but maybe you can feel some of what I mean in my painting.

2 Corinthians 5:1-3 For we know that if our temporary, earthly dwelling is destroyed, we have a building from God, an eternal dwelling in the heavens, not made with hands. Indeed, we groan in this body, desiring to put on our dwelling from heaven, since, when we are clothed, we will not be found naked.

Psalm 90:12 So teach us to number our days,
That we may present to You a heart of wisdom.
