Prone to Wander
Prone to Wander |
This painting is one that has been reworked over and over again - do you feel like you have heard that story a few times? I started working on it while I was practicing daily paintings, and I had several that were all in the same color family and composition. Working this way is a good way to help me develop skills, learn to work with new media, and it can help me get out of a slump sometimes.

The title, Prone to Wander, is appropriate in a couple ways lately. For one thing, when I am busy with life and not in the studio as much as I want to be, my skills start slipping, and I need focus to bring my work back into order. So it almost feels like I have been wandering and need to 'come home'.
Also, though, I have been burdened lately with friends and acquaintances who seem to be ready to walk away from the life and promises of God, looking everywhere, distracted by many things, but wandering away. And then, I find myself ready to worry and miss my own focus on God and His word.
A verse that has been very helpful to me in times like this is Philippians 4:8 (HCSB)
"Finally brothers, whatever is true, whatever is honorable, whatever is just, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is commendable—if there is any moral excellence and if there is any praise—dwell on these things."
(I started a series on these things once... maybe I need to get back to it again, huh?)
