This is a really tiny painting, just 5" x 3", and I love how it turned out! I worked from a photo from our own peach tree, and the photo was way larger than the substrate I was working on ! That was a challenge to work with - usually I am enlarging an image to fit the substrate.
The sketching layer, done with magenta paint, was trickier than I anticipated, but once I had a satisfactory "map", I moved on to painting the darkest areas of the painting. I worked from a black and white version of the photo, which was very helpful in shrinking the image and limiting my value choices.

With an extraordinarily busy week nearly behind me, I thought a tiny painting might be just the ticket to be in and out of the studio quickly. Well, I should have known that working this small is not quicker! But I sure did enjoy working on it! It was a fun change of pace, since I am also working on a larger abstract work, and a small abstract piece too. Have I ever mentioned that I love to paint?
And, here is an update:
Last time I posted a new painting to my blog, I was about to go to a reception for the Hoosier Art Salon 101st Annual Exhibition, and I have wonderful news! My painting, Trying to Get All My Ducks in a Row was awarded 1st prize in the abstract category! What a great surprise that was, and it gave me an opportunity to wear the dress (that I designed and my friend helped me make) from my son's wedding!
