Homage to Waterlilies

Homage to Waterlilies
This little painting reminds me a little of Monet's water lilies paintings, and somewhat to my dismay, I find that many artists have painted "homage to Monet's waterlilies" paintings. I wonder whether Monet had any idea that he would become such a familiar part of culture. I have listened to a book about Vincent VanGogh, and learned a lot  - maybe I need to find a good book on Claude Monet as well!

Part of my work as an artist, outside of the studio, includes time to re-up my inspiration. It may include walking in the woods, travel and scenery, art magazines and books and art videos, among many other things. It is imperative that my "inspiration tank" is regularly refilled. One of the programs I was watching as part of my inspiration refresh had art professionals who were nodding in agreement that they don't look for beauty in art, and that they were "allergic" to it. Oof. I have to disagree with them! I am well aware that there have been years of trends in the arts which approve shock value, celebrating ugliness, etc and which turn up noses at beauty, but it still surprises me when I hear it. And, I have to say, I think that those trends are waning, and I am glad!

I love thinking of Monet looking at his water lilies over and over, and contemplating the beauty there. Other historically significant artists have also been known for spending time just being in their gardens or in art museums or lovely country or seaside venues. It is a mistake to throw away beauty - we need it!

Psalm 27:4 I have asked one thing from the Lord;
it is what I desire:
to dwell in the house of the Lord
all the days of my life,
gazing on the beauty of the Lord
and seeking Him in His temple.

Psalm 96:6 Splendor and majesty are before Him;
strength and beauty are in His sanctuary.

But my main source of both inspiration and of beauty come in my daily time reading my Bible and praying and focusing on God. It is something I don't know how to describe, but I can almost physically feel the need for Him and the beauty of being filled up with His presence.
