Flood Stage

Image
Flood Stage Around here, we are in a spring flood stage right now. Water seems higher than some years, and my Beloved Husband and I have taken a couple of opportunities to take walks where we can see the rushing water.  $310.00 plus shipping and handling 11" x 14" Painted with the finest quality acrylic heavy-body paint on canvas panel Ready to frame Click here to view or purchase on my website. One spring, when friends were starting to do more plein air painting (painting outside), I started to feel the strong wish to paint some of the beautiful areas where they were painting. I painted one of the water ways, and it turned out well - soft and spring-like and dreamy looking. Well, this time I didn't want that softness to show up in this painting, so I made some changes to communicate some of the characteristics I am seeing this spring.  First, I chose a different, limited palette of colors to work with. I am still using my favorite Golden Heavy Body acrylics, but this tim...

A few updates

Weed or Flower?   There has not been much time for painting this week, I am sorry to say! I miss the painting, but the time has been well spent.  Weed or Flower? 2017 blog post 12" x 12" Painted with the finest quality heavy-body acrylic paint on acid-free, heavy weight Fabriano watercolor paper Ready to frame $290.00, contact me to purchase One of the things I have been working on is planning the next exhibit for the small gallery space in the church we attend. My Beloved Husband and I have the privilege of organizing and working on keeping beautiful original artwork in this space. Our next exhibit will include botanical artwork with the theme of new life.  I mention this because I am also invited to participate in a gallery exhibit in a larger church several states away later this year, so I have been working through what art to share there, and how to transport it to and from (if it doesn't sell there) the show. It is trickier than you might think, because I am al...

Long Enough

Image
Long Enough  This time, I knew the title before the paint ever touched the canvas. Such a rare circumstance! I usually find the title to be one of the toughest parts of the painting, but not so this time.  Deuteronomy 1:6 “The Lord our God spoke to us at Horeb, saying, ‘You have stayed long enough at this mountain. Deuteronomy 2:2 And the Lord spoke to me, saying, ‘You have circled this mountain long enough . Now turn north, These verses caught my eye as I read through the book of Deuteronomy in my daily Bible reading time, and I just kept coming back to them. It must have been an inexpressible relief to Moses and to Israel to be told "it's been long enough." It meant the price was paid, the time was up, the promises had been kept.  $1800.00 plus shipping and handling 40" x 30" Painted with artist quality heavy-body acrylic paint on 1.5” deep gallery wrapped canvas Edges painted black Click here to view or purchase on my website. If you look, you may be able to...

Upright ACEO

Image
Upright ACEO My large painting has gotten into the always-happens-but-never-expected stage of being just hideous. It makes me really work to get something pleasant from it. As usual, I decided to do the next layer, thinking, "Well, I can always paint over the entire thing..." At this point, I have not decided the next step in trying to redeem it. My Beloved Husband said something like, "You love this stage, right?" Well. No. And also yes. It is so difficult ! Once it has resolved into either a keeper or thrower, then I realize that I liked it... but not mid-battle like this! Sold 3.5" x 2.5" (traditional ACEO size) Painted with the finest quality heavy-body acrylic paint on acid-free, heavy weight Fabriano watercolor paper Can be framed But, I am also working on several paintings at once, as I usually do. And since I have had the privilege of walking outside in gorgeous spring weather the last couple of days, this tiny ACEO almost painted itself today. Wha...
