Almost certainly, this blog post will not even begin to tell you all that I was trying to articulate as I worked on We'll Be All Right. First, the very first marks on the canvas were an arc and words from a Bible passage, expressing the full story of God's creation. Though several Bible passages have come into play as I have worked on it, the first one to hit the canvas, so to speak, was 1 Thessalonians 5:16 Rejoice always!
The canvas is covered with scars and scratches, colors and mistakes and layers and layers of paint. If you look carefully at the marks and composition, you can see where a cross shape interacts with the arc - cruciform composition in combination with curves composition. It was important to me to convey the love and rescue of God's creation that was brought about in such a startling way by the death of Jesus on the cross.
I used the green to represent earth, and the darker blue and sparkles of color breaking through suggest sky, space, and eternity. As is often the case, the textures and changes and underlying layers speak of the interactions and interruptions in my life, as well as in all of human history.
Here is a video I uploaded which shows the painting in progress. Maybe by watching this short video, you can understand a little of the effort of bringing the painting around to a point I felt was complete. https://youtu.be/9bBK0AqeXI8
Wow, that's transformation! It turned out beautifully. What I love best about acrylic are the layers you are able to achieve if you persevere.
ReplyDeleteYes, I sure love my acrylics, and that is one of the reasons! :)
