Hickory Tree

Hickory Tree

The third (and last) of this series of tree painting is the hickory tree painting. This tree is a beautiful, enormous tree that shades much of our back yard. Several years ago, we hosted a family reunion at our home (for 50+ Stichters!) and one of the uncles said that he thought this shagbark hickory was a state record tree for its size. I would believe it!

6" x 6"
Painted with artist quality heavy-body acrylic paint on 1.5” deep gallery wrapped canvas

All three paintings available. Comment or contact me for more info.

Passages that show up on this work are Romans 8:3-5 What the law could not do since it was limited by the flesh, God did. He condemned sin in the flesh by sending His own Son in flesh like ours under sin’s domain, and as a sin offering, in order that the law’s requirement would be accomplished in us who do not walk according to the flesh but according to the Spirit.  For those who live according to the flesh think about the things of the flesh, but those who live according to the Spirit, about the things of the Spirit.

Romans 8:14-15 All those led by God’s Spirit are God’s sons. For you did not receive a spirit of slavery to fall back into fear, but you received the Spirit of adoption, by whom we cry out, “Abba, Father!”

This tree has been part of my home for the past 25 years, and is an integral part of life here. It has provided shade and a sense of place in this part of the yard, and has seen many picnics and gatherings under its branches. The trampoline and hammocks were under it, and it shades the north part of the house too.

If you have been watching, then you have seen that all three of these tree paintings have parts of Romans 8 as part of the work. Romans 8 has been 'home' and 'integral' to me, too. This is where I have learned that, though I could not clean myself up, Christ could, and through Him I can call God my Father. I hope that you, too, have come to know Him as your loving Father - your Home.
