A Real, Live Tree

A Real, Live Tree

A Real, Live Tree is the fifth in a five painting series which tells of Christmas and of mankind at the same time. It surely falls short of this huge ideal, but the colors and techniques in each of the paintings can help to share this story.

A week or two ago, our son invited my Beloved Husband and me to go with him to cut down a tree at a Christmas tree farm. Our family had done this for years, bringing the beautiful, fragrant tree into our home to celebrate Christmas, and he still loves this tradition. It was such a treat to be invited to go with him to find the perfect tree for his home. Walking through the lumpy field through many different varieties of evergreen trees in the cold is invigorating, and I really miss it when we don't go.
Though we now have an artificial tree at our own house, there are things that just cannot be imitated, like the aroma from a fresh cut evergreen tree. I know there are candles, and scented ornaments (good grief!), and sprays, but they just aren't like the real thing, are they?

The last of this series, the green painting reminds of life. I chose a curving composition to suggest living and growing. For us, growth and movement shows our physical life, and in a similar way, spiritual life is shown by growth and movement. And this real life is the gift that God brought at Christmas through Jesus. Let's accept this priceless gift!

Romans 6:22-23 But now, since you have been liberated from sin and have become enslaved to God, you have your fruit, which results in sanctification — and the end is eternal life! For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.

Philippians 1:6 I am sure of this, that He who started a good work in you will carry it on to completion until the day of Christ Jesus.
