Full Circle

Full Circle
I am so excited to share this painting! I have been working on it for a long time, and I love the way it turned out. (I recently heard that some artists don't like their own paintings... I like almost all of mine, at least when I first release them.) Studio time has been hard to come by recently due to having had the flu, lots of travel, and my dear son's upcoming wedding - woo-hoo! So I am so very pleased to finish this one.

48" x 48"
Painted with artist quality heavy-body acrylic paint on 1.5” deep gallery wrapped canvas
Edges painted black

I know it is tough to tell from the photo that only shows the painting, but this is a large work, and the small squares on it are about 3.5" square individual little works. They were blocked out and painted white and started fresh after all of the rest of the canvas was finished.

Well, there is so much to say about this painting! The very first layer, in enormous purple lettering, said "Jesus is King". I have felt so intensely the societal strain, from global news clear down to keeping up with my own responsibilities. The huge through the small. And one day I saw someone wearing a t-shirt that said Jesus is King, and it brought me such delight and rest. I am pretty sure (though the first layer went on the canvas months ago) that I painted those words the very day I saw that shirt, and they have encouraged me often as I worked on this painting.

I chose colors that signify royalty in my mind, metallic gold, royal blue, and purple being some of the most used in this work. I also used a large circle because I wanted to present a picture of a whole, or all of creation. It's edges are broken up (kind of like pick-up sticks) and uneven indicating our wobbly, broken world, yet they remain a circle.

The three small paintings within the painting contain some of my ideas of Father, Son, and Holy Spirit; Creator and Giver of all good things, Creator and Redeemer; the one who disseminates all the good gifts from God. Can you see those things in them? (Of course, it is much clearer in real life.)

There is so much texture, lots of interference color, iridescence, and metallic color, hints of the underpainting layers showing through the white layer, and just a large presence to this work in person. I wish you could see it. I have barely scratched the surface of the thoughts and reasons for my composition choices and maybe you would have more ideas to add if you see it. I would love to hear them.

1 Timothy 6:11 - 16 But as for you, O man of God, flee these things. Pursue righteousness, godliness, faith, love, steadfastness, gentleness. Fight the good fight of the faith. Take hold of the eternal life to which you were called and about which you made the good confession in the presence of many witnesses. I charge you in the presence of God, who gives life to all things, and of Christ Jesus, who in his testimony before Pontius Pilate made the good confession, to keep the commandment unstained and free from reproach until the appearing of our Lord Jesus Christ, which he will display at the proper time—he who is the blessed and only Sovereign, the King of kings and Lord of lords, who alone has immortality, who dwells in unapproachable light, whom no one has ever seen or can see. To him be honor and eternal dominion. Amen.

Note: I have recently seen a marketing email that reminded me of the faux pas of sharing "religion" with my readers and followers. I am fully aware that many consider this to be a killing blow to an artist's work and audience, but I cannot help it. My work is all inspired by my life in Jesus Christ, and any other "marketing" would be a false message. I have to share what makes my life livable and joyous!
