New Every Morning #48

New Every Morning #48
I am so glad to have a new painting to share with you. It has been way too long since I have finished any abstract works, and so I have decided to share some small paintings that I will be doing as practice as I prepare to present a workshop in early August. My understanding is that the workshop is already mostly sold out, which is pretty exciting!

For whatever reason, I have been especially drawn to green lately. I suspect partly it is all of the gorgeous greens I see from my home. We recently traveled to Colorado, and while the mountain scenery is stunning, I was so pleased to return to the northern Indiana landscape. I find such beauty in the quieter views, and the often overlooked scenes, which in Indiana means lots of green. So the first layers of this painting are painted in a transparent gold-green color. (I hope the color is somewhat true on your screen.)

It is quite difficult to see, but there is texture and shine in the painting from acrylic mediums and from interference paint colors. I had intended to use a curvy compositional structure, but the cruciform kind of sneaked up into the work, making the curves secondary. Analogous colors help me express the quieter response I feel to the greens around me.

My daily Bible reading lately has been in the Old Testament book of Judges, and today I was reading about Samson. I have been processing what I should or could be learning today from this part of the Bible. So very many things impact my thoughts, from the apostacy of a friend to global events. What would my Heavenly Father have for me to consider? Since I find the chapters in Judges difficult, I also chose to read from Proverbs today. There are 31 chapters in Proverbs, which gives a really easy way to choose a chapter - I just use the same chapter as the day's date.

Proverbs 19:23 The fear of the Lord leads to life; one will sleep at night without danger.

Lamentations 3:22 - 23 Because of the Lord’s faithful love we do not perish, for his mercies never end. They are new every morning; great is your faithfulness!
