Freedom, 2021

In honor of the 248th commemoration of the Declaration of Independence being adopted by Congress, I want to share these red(ish), white(ish) and blue(ish) paintings with you. I am glad to live in this great country that has been blessed by God in so many ways over the years. I am thankful for the good things that are part of my life because of these blessings.

Painted with artist quality heavy-body acrylic paint on 1.5” deep gallery wrapped canvas

Do you remember this painting from a few years back? It is one of my few red paintings. I bet you could tell that red is not one of my favorite colors!

Galatians 5:1 It was for freedom that Christ set us free; therefore keep standing firm and do not be subject again to a yoke of slavery.

White, 2014.

For my white painting, I am going way back to 2014. This painting is not even on my website at the moment, though you can read the original blog post for it here. This painting was part of a series of paintings based on the Wordless Book, which I have told you about before. The book is a small book of pages that have only color - no pictures or words - and it is designed to be used to tell children about the hope found in salvation through Jesus Christ.

John 1:12  But as many as received Him, to them He gave the right to become children of God, even to those who believe in His name

Lake Michigan Beach, 2018.

This semi-representational painting of a beach on Lake Michigan will serve as my blue painting. It was painted in 2018 and was painted from a photo of one of our visits to the Great Lake. It has actually been quite a while since we have taken a trip up to the beach there, or to the huge sand dunes. When I get a bit of sehnsucht in my soul, sometimes a visit to big water helps!

It has felt like a little bit of celebration to me to revisit some of these older paintings. Did you remember them?
