Sand and Palm Trees

Sand and Palm Trees
Here in northern Indiana, we are experiencing a preview of spring, and it has been delightful! The sun shining in my windows calls me to go outside and play, and it has been warm enough to wear a light jacket, or sometimes even skip a jacket all together. In spite of the appeal of this Indiana pre-spring, I still felt the pull to paint an even warmer place once again. There is just something about sand and palm trees that tugs at me just a little.

I painted a sand-and-palm-tree painting in December, and have chosen to make this one quite similar in that I am using only a palette knife instead of brushes, and am using a very limited palette of colors. I love the feeling that I am looking down over the edge of a hill toward the water, and I especially like the tiny strip of sand in the distance where the land juts out into the water.

When you last heard from me, we were preparing for an open house / studio in our home on Valentine's weekend. It was such a pleasure to see many visitors, and also to send several paintings to their new homes. After that intense prep and event time, my Beloved Husband and I traveled to see family in Texas and in Colorado. I have not yet had the opportunity to get my house reclaimed, so to speak, from the huge number of paintings that was displayed. Also, I have had some studio time (thank Goodness) but have not finished the larger works that are in progress. I have two large works and about 5 small ones under way. Whew! Painting this tiny, more representational work is a good step for me toward making progress on the other, bigger canvases. I hope to be able to share at least one more work this week.
