Warm Me Up

Warm Me Up
It has been a month since I posted anything on my blog, and I am definitely feeling a bit rusty!  The problem is, I am feeling rusty in the studio, too. I have just not had the something-or-other to get in there and paint, as much as I love to do it. So I decided today to do another tiny daily painting just to get my brush in my hand again. Though I should tell you, this painting actually was mostly done with a palette knife with very little brush work!

4" x 4"
Painted with artist quality heavy-body acrylic paint on 1.5” deep cradled wood panel
Edges painted black

By looking at this work you might think I am pining for warmer climates, but that is not exactly the case. I must admit, though, that yesterday I looked at my travel app to see whether I could afford to fly to south Texas for a day ... If I think about it, that does sound a little crazy.

Actually, I have a friend who expressed an interest in a tiny painting, and she hates winter! I thought I would try my hand at a more tropical setting since I suspect that quite a few people in the colder climates might like a little reminder of warmer days. I have only limited experience with the beach and palm trees, but maybe I should try to get some more!

Because of the way I applied it, I think the paint is one of the main characters in this little one. The landscape is too, of course, but I think it is so much more interesting because of the way the paint lies on the surface of the cradled panel. I like the strong diagonals in the painting that are formed by the shadows and the palm branches.

Since we are nearing Christmas, I want to share three paintings that are Christmas themed. They are all available, but are currently displayed in other places. If you want more information on them, you can click on the title of each one, which will take you to my website.

This year the thing that has been on my mind as we go through the Advent season is the idea of Jesus as light coming in the darkness when He entered our world. I have been reading in Isaiah each morning, and I feel like that book expresses His coming into a dark world so beautifully.

Isaiah 9:2, 6
2 The people walking in darkness
have seen a great light;
a light has dawned
on those living in the land of darkness.
6 For a child will be born for us,
a son will be given to us,
and the government will be on His shoulders.
He will be named
Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God,
Eternal Father, Prince of Peace.

Jubilee, currently available through Gallery 317 in Ohio
